In his recent Best Weekends e-Newsletter, Jim Flynn says “It had been some time since I was on the Coast of Maine, but our June trip brought back memories of its beautiful rocky coastline, the friendly people and of course. the lobstah….
The first three days we spent in Kennebunkport, then drove up the coast, had lunch in Camden and spent the night in Southwest Harbor, the “Quietside” of Mount Desert Island.
First up was the Captain Lord Mansion, one of the best B&B’s we have encountered in our travels. But don’t let the term “B&B” dissuade you, because this place is much more than that. Owned by the same people, Rick and Bev, for over 30 years, this is a labor of love that is evident everywhere. Bev handles the gardens and the decorating and her talents are equal to any professional. The large rooms are wonderfully decorated, comfortable and filled with thoughtful amenities. Rick is the marketing guy and he never stops thinking about how to make the Inn better and more customer friendly. One visit here and it will become an annual event.”
I thank Jim for his warm and insightful coverage of our inn, especially the hard work performed by Bev this spring (and every spring) to make the gardens beautiful. She works many long days and comes home extremely tired. I help her when I can escape from the office. If it ever stops raining, we’ll have gorgeous gardens for you to enjoy! See you soon. Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield
