Inn owners, Bev Davis and Rick Litchfield invite you to participate in their annual Lois Ann Fincher Memorial  “Dime for Time” Campaign to benefit breast cancer research by the American Cancer Society.

For each guest stay throughout the year, we pledge a dime to benefit the American Cancer Society for breast cancer awareness and research programs.  However, we make it even more rewarding!  If guests have stayed with us before, we multiply the number of their visits by the dime!  With over 55% of our guests being repeats, the amount donated adds up!  Between 2010 and 2011 we raised over $7,500 for cancer research.

This original campaign was created to honor Bev’s sister, Lois Ann Fincher who passed away in 2003 after a long and heroic battle with breast cancer.  We know that one of the most meaningful of Lois’ wishes was for time, time to see her children graduate from college and then to see them happily married.  Thankfully, God granted both those wishes.

This annual campaign allows us at Captain Lord Mansion to make contributions to the “Dime for Time” fund throughout the year.  Also, many of our guests make additional cash contributions to honor someone they knew who struggled with or currently is struggling with breast cancer.

The “Dime for Time” Campaign  culminates each year on the last Sunday and Monday of November when selected New England area breast cancer survivors receive a complimentary two-night stay at the Inn.  Those desiring to nominate someone for the complimentary stay at the inn should send us an email at innkeeper@captainlord.com.  Due to travel considerations, we accept nominations only for women from the six New England states.  The email nomination should be about 250 words in length and should give us an idea of why that person should be chosen, as well as giving us the contact information (phone number, mailing address and email address) for the nominee.

We are pleased to announce our annual “First Saturday Winter Wine Tastings”.  Beginning on Saturday, February 4 we will be having a wine tasting the first Saturday of each month through May.   I met with one of our suppliers recently and selected a group of excellent Spanish Wines that we’ll taste in February.

These tastings are a time to learn more about specific wines from a region; we will provide you tasting notes and other informative handouts.  We start the events at 5:30 pm and go to about 6:45 pm; that allows you plenty of time to plan a romantic dinner after the tasting.

The March 3rd event will be hosted by our good friend, restauranteur Dick Varano and will feature Italian Wines.  Dick owns three restaurants in Wells, Bill’s Chowder House, The Wells Beach Steakhouse and Varano’s, a superb Italian restaurant.  This will be Dick’s third year hosting one of our tastings; he not only gives great info on the wines, but also provides interesting comments on his personal trips to Italy to visit the vineyards and producers.

The wine tastings are complimentary; they are included in the room rates for the weekend.  Weekend Rates Start at $239 per night.
