The Wells Reserve is a 2,250-acre research, education, and recreation facility, a public-private partnership within the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Wells Reserve facilities are located at historic Laudholm Farm in Wells, Maine. The Mission of The Wells Reserve is dedicated to protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems of the Gulf of Maine through integrated research, stewardship, environmental learning, and community partnerships. Many years ago, Bev and I made a financial contribution for the purchase and protection of this land.
Bev and I enjoy walking the extensive trail system at the Reserve; one trail takes you to a beautiful white sandy beach. Another meanders through the woods along well-worn paths and along boardwalks over the protected wetlands. Often, during your walks, you'll see deer grazing in the fields adjacent to the reserve headquarters. In the winter we also enjoy cross-country skiing at the Reserve.
When you visit the Captain Lord Mansion, we'll provide directions and detailed trail maps for your enjoyment of this local attraction. The Reserve is located only a few miles from the inn and makes a great short day-trip this Fall. Your innkeeper, Rick Litchfield
